Usually I announce this kind of event in the “Free SharePoint Resources” series, however I really want you to know about this one!.
Microsoft Virtual Academy is offering a Free Jump Start on how to Optimize your SQL 2012 Server for SharePoint 2013. Here is the official text:
Since SharePoint stores most all its data in SQL Server, it makes sense that optimizing the overall SharePoint user experience should focus on how these products are integrated. During this Jump Start, two of the industry’s most popular SharePoint experts, Bill Baer and Brian Alderman, lead a demo-rich exploration of SQL Server settings, SQL Server system database settings and configuration options that will improve SharePoint 2013 performance, availability and security.
A core challenge we often see is the SharePoint admin isn’t a database expert and the Database Administrator (DBA) typically isn’t familiar with the SharePoint nuances that require adjustments in SQL Server. Similarly, in smaller organizations one person serves both roles. In all these cases, the result is most likely a SQL Server 2012 deployment that isn’t configured to optimize and protect the SharePoint environment.
Even though you don’t see it right away, in 99% of the cases, SharePoint Admins aren’t SQL Pro’s and some SharePoint improvements go against SQL Best Practices, so your DBA will never do them.
The Jump Start is March 19, however you can register right away and put it in your calendars!
